JIMSH Leads the Fight Against HIV and AIDS – Free Testing for Sex Workers
New Delhi [India], November 25: Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital (JIMSH) launched a transformative initiative, providing free AIDS testing to 100 women from Sonagachi, one of Kolkata’s most marginalized communities. This endeavor highlighted JIMSH’s dedication to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and offering essential care in the fight against HIV/AIDS. As the largest NABH-accredited hospital in Eastern India, with 1,050 beds , it continues to set benchmarks in accessible healthcare.
Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Krishna Kumar Gupta, Chairman of the Institute , the program aimed to dismantle the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS while empowering participants with vital knowledge and resources. Beyond testing, JIMSH’s medical team conducted counseling sessions and educational workshops, fostering a safe and supportive space to emphasize the importance of early detection and safer practices.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Gupta said: “On this World AIDS Day, we reached out to a community often overlooked, extending support through awareness and timely testing. By engaging with the women of Sonagachi, we reaffirm our vision of a society where healthcare is inclusive, empathetic, and free from discrimination. Together, through collective action, we can overcome the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS.”
